This project aims to educate illiterate, rural women in the village of Yalu near Lae. Education and training is given in literacy, sewing and tailoring, vegetable growing and marketing, community development and conflict resolution. Through visits to the Well Women’s Clinic at the Angau Hospital in Lae, the Women and Children’s Support Centre and the Life Education Centre, the village women are made aware of women’s rights, as well as their rights to health and education.

A Training Centre is planned to be built on land donated by a local member of Soroptimist International so that bigger groups of women from other villages can attend these courses.

The Yalu women participate in the fact-finding, problem/need identification and decision-making on future activities.
